We’re not the new kids on the block

We were established in 2001 and have years of experience working with those seeking to build their dream home, extend an existing property or undertake renovations to older or listed buildings.

We also work with developers, housing associations, local authorities, landowners and others to bring forward land for development, designing large and small housing developments in urban and rural areas.

In addition to our Cardiff office which opened in 2017, we have offices in Newtown and Welshpool, Powys and Aberystwyth in Ceredigion where our teams are involved in a wide range of small and large scale projects.

Doug Hughes,
Principal Architect and Managing Director

Doug founded and launched Hughes Architects in 2001. He has a passion for detail as well as being an advocate of sustainable development.

“Early on in my career I designed social housing which then evolved into designing one off bespoke houses for private clients. Given such differing types of project made me realize very quickly that there is no such thing as standard.

“We listen and we offer clear advice to ensure that all of our buildings are unique with the main aim being high quality sustainable architecture with reduced running costs, while getting the most out of the budget.”

Siwan Geraint,
Architectural Designer

Siwan is an experienced architectural designer who also specialises in interior design.

Having graduated from the University of Wales Institute, Cardiff in 2009 with a degree in Interior Architecture, Siwan joined Hughes Architects where she works with clients in Cardiff and throughout South Wales.

“During my studies I learnt about working with existing buildings and creating effective designs that made the most of the space whilst respecting the existing architecture.”
